Overview of maniFold Omega
maniFold Omega is a hybrid real-time effect processor that blends real-time micro-looping, granular fx, spectral-style delay processing, and feedback-based textures. It’s designed for experimental sound design, ambient layering, glitch textures, and abstract time-based transformations.
Key Features
-
Micro-looper and Granular FX engine with 16 Play Heads
- Each head plays from a shared variable-size audio buffer.
- Randomized playback: Position, length, panning, and pitch.
- Real-time Visualization: Monitor active heads and playback positions instantly.
-
Advanced Buffer Management
- Variable Buffer Size: Adjustable from 1 to 60 seconds, allowing for everything from tiny glitches to massive ambient loops.
- State Saving: The audio buffer state is saved directly with your DAW project, so your textures are exactly where you left them when you reload.
-
Buffer Control
- Freeze/Lock: Capture a sonic moment for infinite looping.
- bufferClear: Instantly flush the play/record buffer for a fresh start.
-
Delay Cluster
- 16 delay lines using all-pass filter topology (not standard delays).
- Rich comb-filtering, pitch smearing, and spectral-like time dispersion.
-
• Recirculation
- Feeds the delay network back into itself for evolving, chaotic textures.
- Functions similarly to a high-end reverb tank or modular feedback loop.
-
Envelope & Loop Shape
- mLoopShape: Sets the amplitude envelope for each play head.
-
mLoopSize: Defines minimum playback size (500ms to 5s) for tighter or broader loops.
Technical Overview: maniFold Omega
Micro-Looper & Granular Engine
- mLoopMix (0-100%): Crossfades the delay input between the dry signal and the micro-looper output.
- mLoopSize (250ms - 5s): Defines the base duration for the 16 play heads.
- mLoopShape: Morphs the amplitude envelope (windowing) of the loop grains (triangle). |\ /\ /|
- startJitter: Adds random position offsets to each play head.
- scanSpeed (0.0x - 5.0x): Controls the automated movement through the buffer.
- octaveJitter: Engages random octave shifting for the play heads.
- scanDirection [drop down menu]: Sets the directional behavior (Forward, Reverse, Ping-Pong, Manual(playback controls by cursor)).
- intensity (Hz): Controls the density/trigger rate of new play head assignments.
Buffer & Sync Management
- bufferSize (1s - 60s): Selectable maximum buffer length.
- bufferLock [Toggle]: Freezes the current buffer; stops recording new audio.
- buffClear [Trigger]: Instantly wipes the audio buffer.
- rec_overdub (0-100%): Controls how much of the existing buffer is kept during new recording passes.
Delay Cluster & Feedback Network
- baseDelay (1ms - 1000ms): Sets the fundamental timing for the all-pass network.
- delayFdbck (-0.8 to 0.8): The internal gain coefficient of the all-pass filters; shapes the "metallic" vs. "diffuse" character.
- recirculation (0-100%): Global feedback loop for evolving textures and swells.
- delaySpread: Offsets the delay times across the 32-line network for stereo width and spectral blur.
-
damping (0-100%): High-frequency absorption within the feedback loop.
Global Controls
- in_gain (-18dB to +18dB): Adjusts the input level before processing.
- mix (0-100%): Final Dry/Wet balance of the entire plugin.
-
Modulation Section:
- modAmount (0-100%): Depth of the internal LFO.
- modRate (0Hz - 5Hz): Speed of the internal LFO.
